OBITUARY

Herbert W. "Herb" Hermann, 78, of Fredericktown, passed away Sunday, October 14, 2018, in his home, of natural causes.

He was born October 31, 1939, in Fredericktown, a son of the late Herbert F. and Lena McGrady Hermann.

Mr. Hermann was a 1957 graduate of East Bethlehem High School.

In 1959, he entered the U.S. Navy. For 42 months of his 48-month tour, he was classified as an underwater demolition team operator, spending time in Cuba and in Asia (Vietnam), at the behest of the U.S. government.

Herb was employed as manager of A&P stores in Moon Township and Belle Vernon. He was also employed as a freezer manager for Fox Grocery, later known as Wetterau and Supervalu Belle Vernon.

Herb completely enjoyed spending time at his camp in Potter County and did so every opportunity he had. He also enjoyed woodworking.

On August 15, 1964, he married Barbara Mowl, who died May 11, 2015.

Mr. Hermann was a member of United Methodist Church, Fredericktown. He was also a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7810, Austin. For the past 15 years, he was a member of American Legion Hanson-Cole Post 391, Fredericktown, where he served as current post commander.

Surviving are a son, Scott Hermann (Brenda) of Washington; four grandchildren, Derek Hermann, Andrew Hermann, Chelsey Hermann and Sierra Hermann; three great-grandchildren; his beloved sister, Susan Hermann Knisley of Fredericktown; and several nieces and nephews.

Deceased, in addition to his parents and wife, are a son, Daniel W. Hermann, who died January 23, 1993, and a daughter, Marie Elana Hermann, who died in infancy.

Mr. Hermann and his wife were extremely proud of their two grandsons, whom they raised as if they were their own sons after the death of their father.

At the request of the deceased, a graveside service with full military honors will be held at a date and time to be announced in Beallsville Cemetery.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to American Legion Hanson-Cole Post 391, P.O. Box 517, Fredericktown, PA 15333.
